Auto Express have previously reviewed the Mazda MX-5, praising its “agile, approachable and gratifying handling”, but how does the latest retractable roof edition compare?

Commenting on the most visible difference first, Auto Express note that the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF has a “dramatically different profile to the normal Mazda MX-5, while the origami roof gives it a sense of occasion comparable to Porsche’s latest 911 Targa”. Furthermore, this sophisticated roof does not only look good, but also adds comfort to long journeys through reducing road noise.

The chassis of the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF also impresses, being “just as taut and responsive” as the soft-top model. Along with this, high quality is also evident throughout the model’s specification with features such as LED headlights, “seven-inch infotainment screen” and DAB digital radio being offered as standard.

Overall, with a rating of four stars, the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF has successfully upheld the reputation of its predecessor, making it clear to see why the model “is the world’s best-selling two-seat roadster”.
